1. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 107 Crore landmark milestone. Till now, more than 107 crore 74 lakh 22 thousand vaccine doses have been administered. While more than 73 crore 94 lakh doses have been given as first dose, 33 crore 79 lakh doses have been given as second dose.

2. The govt has cut the basic duty on crude palm oil, crude soyabean oil, and crude sunflower oil from 2.5 % to nil in a bid to reign in a continuous rise in the cooking oil prices for the past year. The Agri-cess on these Oils has been brought down from 20% to 7.5 % for crude palm oil and 5 percent for crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil.

3. The Centre has said that a total of 22 States and Union Territories have so far undertaken a commensurate reduction of  VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers following its decision to significantly reduce Central Excise Duty on fuel. The Central government has reduced the Excise Duty on petrol by  5 rupees and 10 rupees on diesel per litre.

4. Delhi on Friday recorded a maximum temperature of 26.3 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The minimum temperature in the city settled at 15 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was recorded at 69 per cent at 5.30 pm.

5. PM Modi unveils statue of Adi Shankaracharya at Kedarnath.
 The Samadhi of Adi Shankaracharya has been reconstructed after its destruction in the 2013 Uttarakhand floods.

6. The govt has issued a Draft Mediation Bill for Public Consultation. The draft Bill proposes for pre-litigation mediation and at the same time safeguards the interest of the litigants to approach the competent adjudicatory forums and courts in case an urgent relief is sought. As per the draft Bill, the successful outcome of mediation in the form of the Mediation Settlement Agreement has been made enforceable by law.

7. Now Indian space agency can suggest the ideal location to put up a solar power farm with the data gathered from its geostationary earth observation satellites within and outside India.

 8. ANDHRA PRADESH : Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials on Thursday seized around 4 kg of gold worth Rs 1.91 crore from a passenger, who was smuggling the yellow metal on a train at Visakhapatnam.

9.  DELHI recorded its poorest air quality in five years the day after Diwali with a deadly cocktail of noxious fumes from firecrackers and stubble burning pushing the 24-average AQI to 462, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Friday.

10.  DELHI govt approves Rs 1,544 cr for health facilities to combat COVID19; also approves induction of 190 Low Floor CNG buses under Cluster Scheme. These buses will be equipped with facilities like CCTVs and panic buttons and would be fully compliant with BS-VI emission standards

11.  The Gujarat govt on Friday announced that Class X students who have passed with grace marks can seek admission for diploma courses at polytechnic institutes

 12. Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur  said the state has decided to further reduce VAT on petrol and diesel.
 He said petrol would be cheaper by Rs 12 per litre and diesel would be cheaper by Rs 17 per litre in the state.

 13. KERALA : The bus services of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation were disrupted across the state on Friday as various trade unions called for a 24-hour-long strike from midnight demanding pay revision.

14. PUNJAB : Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday informed that he has taken back his resignation as the president of the party's Punjab unit.

15. Punjab Police claim to have foiled a possible attempt of a terror attack after it recovered an explosive-filled tiffin box hidden in an agricultural field near the Indo-Pakistan border in Ferozepur district on the eve of Diwali.

       ENTERTAINMENT 


1. {IFFI} International Film Festival of India has announced the selection of films for the Indian Panorama section to be screened during its 52nd edition in Goa. The festival is being organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Goa government from 20th to 28th November. The selected films will be showcased to all the registered delegates and representatives from the selected films during the nine-day-long film festival in Goa.

2. Sameer Wankhede removed from Aryan Khan drugs case probe: The investigation into the Aryan Khan drugs case has been transferred from the NCB's Mumbai zone to a central team. Sameer Wankhede will no longer supervise the probe. Meanwhile, a vigilance probe against Sameer Wankhede is currently underway. The probe was initiated by the NCB after allegations of extortion were levelled against Sameer Wankhede in the course of the investigation into the Mumbai cruise drugs case.

3.  ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SAMEER WANKHEDE 
An independent witness in the Mumbai cruise drugs case, Prabhakar Sail, alleged that Rs 25 crore was demanded on behalf of Sameer Wankhede to let off Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan. Aryan was arrested in the case on October 3 and released on bail on October 30.

In a notarised affidavit, Prabhakar Sail, who was the bodyguard of another witness KP Gosavi, claimed the latter had made the demand for Rs 25 crore on behalf of Sameer Wankhede. He also alleged that he was made to sign blank papers by NCB officials. On October 27, Sameer Wankhede was questioned by the NCB's vigilance team for more than four hours.

1. India Scraps $1 Billion Defence Purchase Plan to Acquire MK-45 Naval Guns From US: Russian Media . The Trump administration approved the sale of 13 MK-45 naval guns and related equipment at an estimated cost of around $1 billion in November 2019. These anti-surface and anti-air guns were being purchased to enhance the lethal capabilities of the Indian Navy.

2. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who is on a visit to the Czech Republic, met Chief of General Staff of the Czech Army on 04 Nov and exchanged views on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations.

3. The 3rd edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) 2021 is being held from November 7-9  under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa. The GMC is the Indian Navy’s Outreach Initiative providing a multinational platform to harness the collective wisdom of practitioners of maritime security and the academia towards garnering outcome-oriented maritime thought. 

The theme for this year’s edition of GMC is Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats- A Case for Proactive Role for Indian Ocean Region Navies.

  INTERNATIONAL NEWS


1. The US set to lift all restrictions for fully vaccinated international travellers, including from India, from November 8 but they will have to show proof of a negative coronavirus test before boarding a flight to the country.

2. The govt has asked Pakistan to reconsider its decision to close its airspace to a Srinagar-Sharjah direct flight,  noting that the issue had been raised via diplomatic channels.

3. The Chinese army’s acceleration of its training and fielding of heavy military equipment has prepared it for any escalation of border tensions with India and to support a “Taiwan contingency”, according to a new US defence department report.

4. India has strongly condemned the terror attack on a maternity hospital in a Shia-dominated area of Kabul on 02 Nov . At least 19 people were killed and 43 others were wounded in an attack on Afghanistan’s biggest military hospital in the capital Kabul.

5. India will be hosting the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan on the 10th of November. The meeting will be at the NSA level and NSA Ajit Doval will chair it. Two earlier meetings in this format have been held in Iran in September 2018 and December 2019.

1.  Europe is once again at the epicenter of the Covid pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned, as cases soar across the continent. At a press conference WHO Europe head Hans Kluge said the continent could see half a million more deaths by February. He blamed insufficient vaccine take-up for the rise.

2. ETHIOPIA , nine anti-government groups, including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), have agreed to form an alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's administration. It comes as pressure mounts on Mr Abiy, with rebel forces making advances towards the capital.

3. Iran to resume Nuclear Deal talks with US and 5 other Nations in Vienna this month.  Talks aimed at reviving the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six other nations are to resume this month. Iran's chief negotiator Ali Baqeri Kani in Twitter yesterday said Iran had agreed to start the negotiations aiming at the removal of unlawful and inhumane sanctions on 29 th November in Vienna.

4. Britain's health regulators have approved the world's first pill to treat cases of symptomatic COVID-19. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said, the antiviral Lagevrio (molnupiravir) has been found to be safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in people with mild to moderate COVID-19, who are at increased risk of developing severe disease.

6th November 1913:
 Mahatma Gandhi was arrested in South Africa for leading the miner’s march. By the year 1913, a tax was imposed on all formerly contracted laborers, by the name of the Indian Relief Bill. Mahatma Gandhi while triggering a passive resistance campaign against this, where he was supported by thousands of mineworkers. For leading the march on 6th November 1913 that included 127 women, 2037 men, and 57 children, Mahatma Gandhi was arrested in South Africa. After being released on bail, 

Gandhiji, a leader of Indian Passive Resistance Movement, was arrested for leading Indian miners march in South Africa by British troops.

Major Hari Pal Singh Ahluwalia (born 6 November 1936) is an Indian mountaineer, author, social worker and retired Indian Army officer. During his career he has made contributions in the fields of adventure, sports, environment, disability and social work . He is the sixth Indian man and twenty first man in world who climbed Mount Everest.

During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, he suffered a bullet injury to his spine which resulted in his confinement to a wheelchair.
Presently, he is the Chairman of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.

BHAI DOOJ LEGENDS 
Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the fifth day of Diwali and marks its end. It is called Bhai Tikain in Nepal. In West Bengal, the festival is known as Bhai Phota. 

There are two popular legends about the Bhai Dooj celebrations:

Yamaraj and Yamuna 
As the legend goes Yamraj, the god of death was the brother of the sacred river Yamuna. On being continuously invited, He visited his sister Yamuna on this particular day. Overjoyed on seeing his brother, Yamuna put the auspicious Tilak on his forehead, garlanded him and prepared special dishes and sweets for him. While parting Yamraj gave her a special gift as a token of love and Yamuna too gave him a love gift that she made herself. 

Lord Krishna visiting his sister Subhadra, who welcomes him and applies tilak on his forehead, after he slays the demon Narkasura.
